Belts and Promotions
 
Achievement in Judo is recognized by awarding different color belts. In our dojo this is typically done through competition and Kata. The student ranks are called kyu. The ten black belt, or expert, ranks are called dan. Our dojos uses the following system:
Student Ranks
     White
     Rokkyu (Yellow)
     Gokyu (Orange)
     Yonkyu (Green)
     Sankyu, Nikyu, and Ikkyu (Brown)
 Dan Ranks (Black Belt)
     Shodan (1st)
     Nidan (2nd)
     Sandan (3rd)
     Yodan (4th)
     Godan (5th)
     Rokudan (6th)
     Shichidan (7th)
     Hachidan (8th)
     Kudan (9th)
     Judan (10th)
